Peter Harris

A passionate and award-winning entrepreneur, Peter Harris embodies what it means to have dedication, perseverance and a strong work ethic. From his childhood on a dairy farm in a Rangiriri farming district where he learned the value of hard work and becoming Head Boy at Southwell School in Hamilton where he became an ardent defender of the underdog, the seeds for Harris' indomitable character were sown.  It was after spending time at St. Paul's Collegiate and finishing his accounting exams at Waikato Institute of Technology that he began working first as an account at Fletcher Steel then later at Fletcher Industries. Harris was awarded an Air New Zealand Young Businessman Award in 1984.  He immersed himself in the insurance industry in the marketing and financial sector. It was at this time that he realized that insurance companies could experience a greater return and profit by focusing on lower volume and lower risk within the property and heavy commercial equipment field. He and a partner, Alistair Hutchison, purchased a small, specialized insurance company, CBL. Just two years later, the company had expanded from $2 million written domestically to over $450 million across the international arena. Harris achieved the "Leader of the Year" at the Australia New Zealand Insurance Awards in 2017 as well as the "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the EY Awards that same year.
